The Japanese Society ends the year with a bang at our Karaoke Disco night. This is the last event of the Japanese society calendar and a great chance to celebrate the fun we've had together over the last two semesters. There will be karaoke, a good selection of Japanese and English music, a raffle, closing speeches and the official committee handover. Don't miss it!

It's that time of year again - out with the old and in with the new. March is an important month for a lot of Edinburgh University societies as it is time to have our annual general meetings and elect a new committee for the next academic year. The Japanese Society is no exception and this month all our members are invited to attend and vote in the new office bearers for 2009/2010. If you want to run for the key office bearer positions of President, Treasurer or Secretary then it isn't too late - Send an email in to the committee and let us know!

To spice up one of the final social nights of the semester we are holding a joint pub quiz and origami night with the NE Asia Society. The social night will not be at MacEwans Ale House that week so make a note in your diary to head over to Native State instead (it's next to Koi Japanese restaurant). There will be some lovely origami paper and instructions to experiment with and also a quiz with questions about different Asian countries. We'll be bringing some Japan related questions of our own!

The Glasgow trip has been canceled due to lack of interest from both sides. It seems everyone is a little busy with deadlines in February! Apologies to the few individuals who wanted to go, there may be similar plans in first semester of next term.

It's been a tradition in the society for many years to hold a ceilidh dance party for a group of visiting students from Kaetsu University in Tokyo. This year is no exception and it's already shaping up to be a fantastic night. We will have a live ceilidh band and dance instructions in Japanese and English. Bring your friends and enjoy one of the most lively aspects of Scottish hospitality.
Tickets are £4/£5 (members/non-members) and will be on sale at social nights in February.

For one week only we are moving our social night to a different venue to have a joint quiz night with the JETAA (Japan Teaching Exchange Alumni Association). This is a good opportunity to meet ex-JETS who have experienced Japan on the famous exchange program and enjoy some cheap student drink offers.
We've booked out the basement bar so head there on a arrival.
