Dr Buckland has worked in the art world and the museum world for some years now, authoring several articles and exhibition catalogues, and has recently been awarded a doctorate from New York University for her work on literati painters in 19th-century Japan. She is currently involved, amongst numerous other things, in the ground-breaking digitization project at the British Museum, which is one of the most extensive world-wide.
She will offer one of two subjects on this occasion: (i) Japanese screens from the 17th century or (ii) paintings from the early to mid Meiji period. The lecture on the screens deals with some exquisite examples of Edo period art.
