Yokoso! The University of Edinburgh Japanese Society aims to get together people interested in Japanese culture to have fun! You don't have to be Japanese or a student, we welcome everyone!

We have social meetings every Thursday evening, from 8.30pm onwards during term-time. Our social venue is McEwans Ale House on Clerk Street (Google Maps) opposite Lloyds TSB Bank, next to Edinburgh Bargain Store and Oscars takeout.

We also often hold special events‚ see the relevant section on this website. Members get discounts on our events and at Japanese restaurants Bonsai and Koi. Membership costs £3/£6 (students/others) for the academic year.

Constitution of Edinburgh University Japanese Society

Amended 2/3/06
  • The name of the society shall be Edinburgh University Japanese Society.
  • The aims of the society shall be twofold. Firstly, to act as a conduit for students of Japanese, students of Japanese nationality and those with an interest in Japan to meet each other and form friendships. This shall be achieved by weekly social meetings at a public house during term-time. Secondly, to hold monthly events for members, exploring aspects of Japanese culture.

Committee 2008/09

The Committee is a team of volunteers and elected officers who are responsible for planning and organising events and smooth running of the society in general. We have regular meetings normally once a week to discuss and organise our future events and other businesses. If you have any suggestions, requests, or other enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us. You all are a vital part of this society, and the committee members are here to make things happen. We are looking forward to working with you to implement your ideas.
