Intermediate Class

Submitted by ippei on Sun, 2008-01-06 11:29.

We are running an intermediate class this semester, in addition to the beginners class. We welcome anyone who has completed a beginners level or has lived in Japan and like to continue studying Japanese. You do not need to be a member of Japanese Society or a student at the University.

The class is taught by an experienced Japanese teacher with some international students from Japan as assistant. We expect to have a small class of around 6 students. The level will be adjusted to fit each student's need as much as possible.

TANDEM: Practise your language with a partner

Submitted by ippei on Fri, 2007-09-28 00:10.

Something really exciting is happening this year. Last year, we tried to organise our own language exchange which wasn't very successful. This year, the Students Association has launched their own language exchange programme: TANDEM. It's a much bigger project than what we've tried last year, and is already popular!

Learning Japanese in Edinburgh

Submitted by ippei on Wed, 2007-09-26 12:38.

First of all, I suppose if you are an undergraduate and serious about learning Japanese, you are already in Japanese 1, or at least tried to put yourself in. I know many people who took this course, and all of them got a certain level in one year. Everyone seems to have had fun in that class too, so why not?

If you are not at the University, or perhaps you don't want that intensive learning like Japanese 1, fortunately the University has its own language teaching centre, IALS (http://www.ials.ed.ac.uk/MLC/languages/Japanese.html). There is no reason you shouldn't check out their language courses. They usually have frequent beginner classes as well as wide range of classes at different levels. Their schedules roughly follow that of university term dates so classes start in September and January. Matriculated students can get large discount on some of the courses.

This year, Japanese Society is also running own class with an experienced Japanese teacher together with some of the Society members who are keen to experience and learn how to teach Japanese. See http://eduni.japanese-society.org.uk/class1 for details.
