Edinburgh University - Faculty Room South

Dr Buckland has worked in the art world and the museum world for some years now, authoring several articles and exhibition catalogues, and has recently been awarded a doctorate from New York University for her work on literati painters in 19th-century Japan. She is currently involved, amongst numerous other things, in the ground-breaking digitization project at the British Museum, which is one of the most extensive world-wide.

The Edinburgh Sogetsu Study Group will shortly hold an Ikebana Demonstration (Japanese Floral Art) in Edinburgh, details are as follows:

International Ceilidh

The ISC in association with EGP Ghana are hosting the International Ceilidh - one final chance to dance the Scottish way before the end of term, featuring Folk It ceilidh band.

Teviot Debating Hall, doors 8.30pm.
Tickets £5, available in advance from the ISC or on the door - all proceeds going to charity!

Special Lectures on 'Sprited Away' and 'Japanese Theatre'

If you fancy a break from the intense exam period then why not attend one of these special lectures by Dr Helen Parker and Dr Yoko Matsumoto-Sturt:

1) 9-11 am on 30 April: lecture by Dr Yoko Matsumoto-Sturt on the movie "Spirited Away"
2) 4-6 pm on 30 April: lecture by Dr Helen Parker on Japanese theatre

The venue for both lectures will be the Lecture Theatre in Hugh Robson Building, George Square (this building is on the north side of George Square).

Japanorama

Celebration of traditional Japanese culture with both indoor and outdoor entertainment, demonstrations and activities.

Outdoors there will be a taiko drumming performance, martial arts demonstrations and a Japanese folk dance. Indoors will be the Japanese Tea Ceremony, sushi demonstration, a display of kimonos, origami and calligraphy activities. Japanorama is a Show Scotland event in collaboration with the Scottish Japanese Residents Association.

Tanuki Society Visit

The Tanuki Society, from Leiden in Holland, will be visiting Edinburgh around the end of April. unfortunately the majority of Edinburgh University students will have exams at this time.

As strangers to the city, we'd like to offer them some sort of company during their visit. If anybody free and interested can spare some time to welcome the society and perhaps give them a guide around Scotland's capital then check out their itinerary below:

JETAA Scotland are delighted to invite you to the the JETAA ceilidh 2008.

JETAA Scotland is hosting the event at St Columba's Church Hall on Johnstone Terrace, Edinburgh on Saturday 23 February. We're starting the festivities early - 6.30 pm. You can also BYOB to the venue -although we have been asked that people do not bring along spirits, beer or wine is preferable.
